Location
You can look at history from many angles. That diversity is reflected in the Netherlands Open Air Museum. Here you’ll find buildings, objects and stories up to two hundred years old — but also memories of your own childhood. You pause to reflect on the major events of our history and on the “small” moments of everyday life. You delve into complex conflicts from our past or simply enjoy a walk in the green surroundings. In this museum you discover where you and others come from, from Baarn to Bali, and you think about where it’s headed.
Then and now
As you walk through the green museum park, you discover that people in the past faced much the same questions and problems we do today. Like us, they often solved them by working together and by making clever use of the resources they had. You experience how people lived with one another and with their surroundings. You see what has changed and what has remained the same.
Real buildings from the past
From an authentic sod hut to a "Dutchified" Chinese restaurant. From the workers' house to a real shipyard. You can find it in the beautiful green museum park. The buildings you see are all authentic and were carefully relocated and rebuilt.
Fun for children
Children won't be bored for a second at the museum. There's plenty to do on the children's farm: here the guest worm Wiep takes you to all the locations. On the farm you'll find various activities, such as practicing milking a cow, carrying buckets with a yoke, and doing the laundry with a wringer. You can also visit the worm hotel. Finally, don't forget to end your visit to the museum with a trip to the playground. There you can bake the most beautiful sand cakes and zip down the zip line at lightning speed.
